Congressman Eric Swalwell issued an apology to his wife, Brittany Watts, after he was accused of sexual assault by multiple women.
“I do not suggest to you in any way that I’m perfect or I’m a saint,” Swalwell said in a social media video shared in April 2026, addressing the claims. “I have certainly made mistakes and judgment in my past, but those mistakes are between me and my wife.”
He continued, “To her, I apologize deeply for putting her in this position.”
Several hours earlier, four women — including one of Swalwell’s former staffers — accused the politician of sexual misconduct, sexual harassment and rape. Swalwell has vehemently denied the accusations, vowing to “fight” them “with everything” he has.
Swalwell is a democratic congressman representing California’s 14th congressional district. He is the frontrunner in the 2026 race for California governor.

Eric Swalwell and Brittany Watts got married in October 2016, according to The New York Times. The outlet reported that Swalwell and Watts exchanged vows at the Rene C. Davidson Courthouse in Oakland, California.
Swalwell and Watts met in September 2015 by mutual friends, whom the politician set up on a date 12 years earlier.
Brittany Watts keeps a low profile amid her husband Eric Swalwell’s political career. She is a small business owner in hospitality, according to an entry on his congressional website.
The New York Times reported in 2016 that Watts worked as the director of sales for the Ritz-Carlton resort in Half Moon Bay, California, at the time of her wedding to Swalwell.
Eric Swalwell and Brittany Watts are parents of kids Nelson, Cricket and Hank.
“The kids are growing up as Democrats,” his congressional website bio reads.
Swalwell often shares photos of Watts and their kids via social media.
“Happy birthday to the mom and wife who does it all,” he wrote via Facebook in January 2026. “And she does it with ease, grace, and beauty. ***And an occasional “wtf have we signed ourselves up for?!”

Just five days before Eric Swalwell was accused of sexual assault, he enjoyed Easter with Brittany Watts and their children.
“Happy Easter from our family to yours,” he wrote via Instagram in early April 2026, alongside a photo of the couple at home with their three kids. “Let’s keep working toward a future that reflects the very best of who we are.”
